Langley, B.C.-based Martini Entertainment Group (MEG) has set multiple partnerships in an expansion of its scripted and unscripted development slate.
MEG has partnered with Jennica Harper to develop The Whiners. Harper is attached as creator and showrunner of the 30-minute comedy series, which is set in B.C.’s Okanagan Valley, and follows a pair of sisters who inherit their aunt’s vineyard. Her previous showrunning gigs include Jann and Run the Burbs.
Harper is also the head writer on CBC Kids’ Gangnam Project season two, which wrapped production last month.
MEG has partnered with St. John’s-based Olive Film Productions to coproduce a comedy series with Sherry White and Allana Harkin. White previously served as a co-showrunner and co-creator on Pretty Hard Cases. The Nfld.-based writer, producer and director was also the showrunner for series such as Little Dog and writer for the feature film Maudie. Harkin’s previous work includes Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
Olive Film was founded by Caitlin Delaney and Taralee Gerhard earlier this year.
Lastly, MEG has partnered with U.S.-based Scott St. John to develop game show formats. St. John was a showrunner on series such as Hot Ones: The Game Show and the creator of the series Snap Decision.
Launched by Gemma Martini (pictured) with George Patterson, David Shepheard and Bonnie Marshall in 2021, MEG is the content development division of the Martini-founded Martini Film Studios, a full-service production facility.
“Launching the Martini Entertainment Group in 2021 was a natural expansion of the Martini group,” said Martini in a statement, “focusing on creating our own original IP and partnering with wonderful talent from across Canada and the U.S.A. on other opportunities.”
In April this year, Martini Films acquired a majority stake in the Vancouver prodco Lighthouse Pictures.
