abhi rastogiToronto-based distributor 108 Media has expanded its unscripted and scripted distribution footprint with a number of deals in South Korea.

Launched in 2011 by founder and CEO Abhi Rastogi (pictured), 108 currently distributes a variety of content across all major platforms in North America with an extensive distribution network across Asia, focusing primarily on under-served territories and emerging markets.

The company will launch its Korean market strategy with integrated media and content company Play On Cast, which produces and distributes HD & UHD 4K content. Under the deal, 108 will increase the sales and distribution of Play On Cast’s Korean TV drama series and 4K content for the North American marketplace.

108 Media has also secured an output deal with South Korean producer-distributor Sidus Pictures that will see titles from 108’s catalogue released monthly on Sidus’ SVOD service.

Sharon Lee, 108’s senior sales executive, told Playback Daily the company is seeking to serve the country’s high demand for scripted TV content. 108 is also looking to introduce North American drama series formats that Korean audiences may be unaware of, and vice-versa.

Among the other titles on 108’s roster are Deia Schlosberg’s Cold Love, Elias Mater’s Exodus: Our Journey to Europe and Valentina Canavesio’s Footprint.

The company also plans to enter the U.K. market in the first quarter of 2017, with 1o8 finalizing a number of European deals in the coming months. Aliy Brown, director of distribution, said the company is looking to distribute feature films and series on both established and emerging VOD services in Europe.
