Breakthrough bolsters distribution team

The Toronto company has upped Owen Kelly as it continues to expand its senior ranks and grow its distribution business.

owen-kelly_headshotBreakthrough Entertainment continues to bolster its senior team, promoting Owen Kelly to the role of international sales and acquisition executive for feature films.

Kelly, who joined Breakthrough’s business affairs department in May of 2015, will now handle worldwide sales and acquisitions for the company’s film business, reporting to Nat Abraham, partner and president of distribution, the company announced in a release.

Kelly’s background in business affairs includes a stint with Toronto-based sales agency Cinema Vault Releasing. He also previously worked for Global Incentives, where he managed tax credit administration and estimates for both U.S. and Canadian production companies, including Relativity Media, The Weinstein Company and Lionsgate.

This year has seen Breakthrough expanding in a number of areas, though none more so than its distribution business. In September, the Toronto company added Caroline Tyre as senior director, international sales and acquisitions, later adding Suzanne Wilson as VP, family entertainment.

The company also signed a seven-picture domestic distribution deal with United Front Entertainment (UFE) in September, as well as securing multiple international deals for its Anne of Green Gables MOW.
