Global preps January launch for Ransom

The Global original drama is produced by eOne, Sienna Films, Big Light Productions and Wildcats Productions.

Corus Entertainment’s Global has set the premiere date for its new original drama, Ransom. 

The 13-episode procedural will debut Jan. 1 at 8:30 p.m. and will air in simulcast with CBS in the U.S. The show will then move into its regular Saturday night timeslot beginning Jan. 7 at 8 p.m.

Created by David Vainola (Combat Hospital) and Frank Spotnitz (The X-Files), the series follows hostage negotiator Eric Beaumont (Wolf Hall‘s Luke Roberts) and his team as they deal with high-pressure crisis situations and attempt to save lives. The cast also includes Canadians Brandon Jay McLaren (Chicago Fire) and Nazneen Contractor (Heroes Reborn), as well as Irish actress Sarah Greene (Penny Dreadful).

Ransom, which filmed in Toronto this summer, is produced by Entertainment One, Toronto’s Sienna Films, Spotnitz’s Big Light Productions and Paris-based Wildcats Productions. Spotnitz serves as executive producer alongside Valerie Pechels and Odile McDonald of Wildcats Productions, and Jennifer Kawaja and Julia Sereny of Sienna Films.

The Canada/France copro was developed by Corus Entertainment and TF1, with the participation of the Centre National du Cinema et de l’Image Animé in France as well as Canada Media Fund. It was produced with the financial assistance of the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit and the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit.

The drama will also air on France’s TF1 and Germany’s RTL. Entertainment One controls worldwide rights to the series, excluding French-speaking territories.
