Former president of Entertainment One Television International Peter Emerson has taken on a new executive role.

Emerson has acquired a minority stake in Montreal-based producer and distributor Cineflix Media and been named its president. He’ll be based in the company’s Toronto office.

In the newly created role, Emerson will work with Cineflix Media co-founders and co-CEOs Glen Salzman and Katherine Buck to lead the company’s growth efforts. In an effort to drive this growth, Cineflix also announced that, in addition to Emerson’s investment, the company is working to secure new financing with U.S. banks, including a senior operating line, as well as funding for acquisitions and content partnerships.

Cineflix has been in expansion mode of late. The prodco behind unscripted series Property Brothers and Mayday, announced in June that it had hired a former Sea to Sky Entertainment VP Brett Burlock as its new SVP of scripted to help the company push further into the scripted and MOW space. Just last week the company started production on the six-part one-hour drama Pure, which it is producing with Two East Production for CBC.

At eOne Emerson helped expand the company’s TV operations outside of North America. In 2012, Emerson relocated from Toronto to London, U.K. to develop more TV and distribution opportunities for eOne Television in Europe. He exited the role in 2014.

Prior to joining eOne, Emerson was a partner in Blueprint Productions and president of Oasis International, both of which were acquired by eOne in 2008.

Cineflix has offices in Montreal, Toronto, New York, London and Dublin.
