Starz has renewed the drama series The Girlfriend Experience for a second season.
The anthology TV series, which is based on Steven Soderbergh’s 2009 film of the same name, will return for a 14-episode sophomore season. The 13-episode first season of the show was shot at Toronto’s Film Port Studio (formerly known as Cinevillage studio).
It has not yet been confirmed whether the production on the series will return to Toronto for its second season.
Produced by Transactional Pictures, the series is both written and directed by Lodge Kerrigan and Amy Seimetz. The series is executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, who also directed the 2009 film. Soderbergh will return as an executive produced on season two, alongside Philip Fleishman, Kerrigan, Seimetz, Jeff Cuban, Andrew Fierberg and Adele Romanski.
The first season of The Girlfriend Experience centred on the story of an interning law student who also worked as a high-end escort. The series was filmed from March to June of 2015, and debuted on Starz in April 2016.
