Canada’s TV golden girl is up for another major award.
Tatiana Maslany has been named a contender for the Primetime Emmy’s best actress in a drama category, the second in as many years for the young actor.
Maslany will be competing against Claire Danes, Viola Davis, Taraji P Henson, Keri Russell and Robin Wright.
Maslany has won, and been nominated for a slew of awards for her multi-faceted performance on Space channel’s Orphan Black, including Golden Globe nominations and Canadian Screen Award wins. She is represented by The Characters’ Jennifer Goldhar in Canada.
Equally exciting on the talent side, however, is Canadian Thomas Middleditch’s (pictured right) lead actor in a comedy series nomination for his work on HBO’s Silicon Valley. Middleditch, who hails from Nelson, B.C., is also starring in Canadian indie Entanglement, now underway, and as a voice actor in Bron Studios’ Henchmen. Middleditch is repped by WME in the U.S.
Alberta-shot Fargo landed 18 nominations, in the running for outstanding limited series and outstanding cinematography for a limited series or movie (episode “Waiting for Dutch”) as well as a host of others. Calgary’s Nomadic Pictures service-produces Fargo in Canada.
And Vikings was nominated three times, earning a second nod in the outstanding sound editing category (it was also nominated in 2013), as well as VFX, done by Toronto’s Mr. X, and outstanding makeup in a single-camera series. The History series for Corus is co-produced by Take 5 Productions, with sound by Toronto’s Tattersall Sound and Picture. Tattersall was also recognized for its work on Fargo, with a sound nomination for that series as well, and for its work on Showtime’s Penny Dreadful.
The Emmys will air Sunday Sept. 28, 2016.
