Intervention Canada is returning to Canadian airwaves, this time on CBC’s Documentary Channel.
The docu-series, produced in Canada by Toronto prodcos Open Door Co. and Insight Productions, ran for two seasons on Slice between September 2011 and December 2012, but was not renewed following the second-season run. A third new season (10 x 60 minutes) has been commissioned by Documentary Channel and is set to premiere on July 25 at 9 p.m.
A+E International holds the format rights to Intervention, the domestic rights to which were first acquired by Open Door for the earlier Shaw Media deal. The series will air exclusively on CBC’s doc channel, with five air dates confirmed and a further five TBD.
A+E International will distribute the Canadian episodes throughout the rest of the world.
In an announcement on the new season, Bruce Cowley, senior director and commissioning editor at CBC’s Documentary Channel, said the series “combines so many of those elements we look for in a documentary series. It’s an honest and challenging reflection of Canadian families facing the ravages of addiction, but it also offers hope and resolution.”
Intervention Canada follows addicts as they deal with substance abuse issues, and their families who attempt to help them recover. In each episode, families meet with interventionists Maureen Brine (pictured right) and Andrew Galloway (pictured left) to help them through the process of intervention.
Tom Powers is executive producing for Open Door Co., while John Brunton and Barbara Bowlby are executive producing for Insight Productions. Insight’s John Murray serves as supervising producer, and Thomas Chenoweth is series producer.
