Industry veterans Lorraine Richard and Michel Bissonnette have partnered to launch Ad Lib +, a new production company focusing on the production of English-language dramatic television projects.
The new company is a joint venture between Richards’ Ad Lib Films and Bissonnette’s Zone3. Richard will act as president of Ad Lib +, which will operate out of Zone3’s Montreal office. She’ll also continue to lead Ad Lib Films, which focuses primarily on feature production.
Richard co-founded Cité Amérique in 1988 and Ad Lib Films in 2013. She’s produced projects such as the U.K.-Canada copro Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, and the 2001 feature Lost and Delirious. Zone3, which Bissonnette cofounded in 2000, is one of Canada’s more prolific production companies, regularly in Playback‘s Indie List top 10. It produces across TV genres and formats in English and French, and has additional offices in Toronto and New York.
Richard added that partnering with Zone3 was particularly attractive to her because it would allow her to focus on creating, while Zone3 runs the business side of the operation.
“I’ve been running a company since 1988 and the actual landscape of broadcasting is moving and shifting a lot and there’s a transition. So for me, now, I don’t want to have a big structure to take care of anymore. I’d rather devote my time only on the creative, [and] of course the financing of the production and running the production,” Richard said in an interview with Playback Daily. “But I don’t want to worry about all of of the rest any more,” she added with a laugh.
Richard told Playback that Ad Lib + is currently developing a project with partners in the U.K, as well as another project that is going into development with CTV. Her business partner Greg Dummett will also continue to work with her at Ad Lib +.
