Murdoch, Heartland head to season 10 with solid audiences

Both of the long-running CBC series were recently renewed for 10th seasons.

Long-running cult-favourite CBC dramas Murdoch Mysteries and Heartland wrapped their ninth seasons with solid audiences and new seasons on order.

The series final episodes saw Murdoch pull in an overnight audience of 1.32 million (2+), while Heartland‘s overnight numbers were 950,000 (2+), according to CBC. Murdoch‘s season nine finale aired on Monday at 8 p.m., with Heartland airing on Sunday at 7 p.m.

Heartland was most recently in the Numeris top 30 TV chart in February, drawing an viewership of 1.088 million viewers, according to final audience data provided by Numeris (2+). Murdoch meanwhile has posted steady audiences over the past few seasons, with its seventh season drawing an average of 1.295 million and its eighth season 1.229 million (All ratings 2+; Numeris data via CBC).

Heartland, produced by SEVEN/24 Films and Dynamo Films in association with CBC, became the longest-running Canadian hour-long drama in Canadian history in October 2014. A post on the series’ official blog on CBC.ca announced last week that Heartland was coming back for a 10th season. The season will include 18, one-hour episodes.

Murdoch is produced by Shaftesbury in association with the CBC; it was named Playback‘s TV Show of the Year for 2015 and star Yannick Bisson was awarded the Fan’s Choice award at the Canadian Screen Awards earlier this month.
