The Canadian Media Fund has invested $6.3 million across 31 interactive digital media projects, including Minority Media’s Time Machine and Stompy Bot Productions’ Matt Cook’s Sabotage.
The funds were distributed via the CMF’s experimental stream of funding, and were distributed to both marketing and development initiatives for interactive digital media content and software applications.
On the development funding side, seven of 22 projects were awarded $300,000, the most of any one project in this round of funding. The projects recieved $300,000 in funding were Productions Neweb.TV’s Interface humaine, Stompy Bot Productions’ Matt Cook’s Sabotage, Covalent Media’s Social Magnet, SkyBox Labs’ Tower, Rubber Match Productions’ Virtual Director, Studio Sauropode’s WayPoints and Trance VR, produced by a numbered company. Of the selected projects, 12 hailed from Quebec, seven from Ontario, and one from each Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and British Columbia. A total of 15 games, five applications and one VR and streaming software project were funded.
Of the nine projects to receive marketing support through the fund, six are from Quebec, two from B.C and one from Ontario. Among the projects awarded the most funding in this round were Frima Studio’s Jötunn ($280,883), Finish Line Games’ Maize ($224,250), Spearhead Games Stories: The Path of Destinies ($200,000), Eon Altar Productions Inc.’s Eon Altar ($200,000) , Minority Media’s Time Machine ($200,000) and Erudite Science Inc.’s Sphinx ($200,000).
