Sony Pictures takes U.S. home video rights to The Birder

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will distribute Dot Film Company's The Birder on DVD in the U.S.

the birderSony Pictures Home Entertainment has picked up the home video rights in the U.S. to Dot Film Company’s The Birder.

The deal was negotiated by Vancouver’s IndustryWorks and will see the the comedy renamed to The Bird Men in the U.S. to attract a broader audience for the film. The film’s initial release will be through Red Box and a retail release is planned to follow.

The Birder was shot in Windsor and Essex, Ontario, and is co-written by Theodore Bezaire (who also directs) and Mike Stasko. Producers on the project are Gerry Lattmann, Jeff Nadalin and Roy Collavino.

Starring Tom Cavanagh (The Flash), Jamie Spilchuk (Murdoch Mysteries) and Fred Willard (Best in the Show) and the film tells the story of an avid birdwatcher’s attempts to take down a young rival.

The Birder is produced by Dot Film in association with Nadalin’s Kickstand Entertainment.
