California-based Strand Releasing has picked up all U.S. rights to Stephen Dunn’s Closet Monster.
Strand Releasing is currently planning a summer 2016 release for the film. The deal was negotiated by Strand Releasing’s Jon Gerrans and Linzee Troubh of Cinetic Media on behalf of the producers.
Closet Monster, Dunn’s debut feature, had its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and won the Best Canadian Feature Film prize. Closet Monster will also be included in TIFF’s annual Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival.
Elevation Pictures holds the Canadian distribution rights to Closet Monster, with Fortissimo Films representing the film internationally. Dunn served as both writer and director on Closet Monster, with Kevin Krikst and Fraser Ash of Rhombus Media and Edward J. Martin of Best Boy Entertainment producing. Ed Martin and Niv Fichman executive produced. The film received financial support from Telefilm Canada, Newfoundland & Labrador Film Development Corporation, the Harold Greenberg Fund and Rogers Telefund.
Other films currently on Strand Releasing slate include Faith Akin’s The City, Peter Greenaway’s Eisenstein in Guanajuato and Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Cemetery of Splendor, which is screening in this the 2016 Sundance Film festival.
