Telus awards $3.2M across 60 projects

The grants are intended to support local content projects hailing from Western Canada.

copied from media in canada - copied from playback - copied from media in canada - copied from strategy - money1Telus has awarded $3.2 million in grants across 60 local content projects in Western Canada via its Optik Local community programming fund, it was announced Monday.

The selected projects include a mix of original productions, such as web series and documentaries, as well as content or programs linked to existing organizations, such as The Vancouver Public Library Association, the National Screen Institute and the Calgary Association of Independent Filmmakers. Optik Local grants are awarded once year, with nearly 100 projects backed since the program launched in 2013.

Among this year’s selected projects is the comedic web series Young and Reckless from Brianne Nord-Stewart, the second season of Gruv Pix Inc’s factual series Against the Ropes, Dead West Productions’ doc series Barley Fields, the third season of the lifestyle-focused web series Garage Sale Diaries from Hole Hog Media, Flat Four Productions’ doc Some Other Guys and Open Sky Pictures’ Invincible: Beneath the Surface.
