Production on the 10 x 60-minute series is scheduled to continue until early February. The Code, set in Toronto, stars Jason Priestley as ex-hockey pro Matt “Shadow” Shade, whose natural ability of reading people is put to good use in his new career as a private investigator (P.I.). Cindy Sampson (Rogue, Rookie Blue) plays his partner Angie Everett.

The series based on the novel of the same name by Canadian author G.B. Joyce.

“With shows like this – which are more procedural and traditional with the P.I. at the centre – it does become about character and relationships, and that’s what sets it apart from other shows on the network,” said Christine Shipton, SVP and CCO, Shaw Media. The series is meant to appeal to a female-skewing audience of 18- to 49-year -olds, added Shipton.

Showrunning and writing on The Code is Shelley Eriksen, whose previous credits include Continuum and Flashpoint, along with Alan McCullough (Rookie Blue, Reign). Eriksen said she wants the series to be filmed in a wide range of locations throughout the city. Eriksen is repped by The Characters.

Starring alongside Priestley and Everett is Barry Flatman (Fargo, Defiance) and Jordyn Negri (Warehouse 13Dino Dan). Directors attached to the series include Preistley, Kelly Makin, Anne Wheeler, Shawn Piller, Charles Officer, Rob Lieberman and Jerry Ciccoritti.

The series is executive produced by John Morayniss and Rachel Fulford for eOne, alongside Shawn Piller, Lloyd Segan, Tassie Cameron, Kelly Makin, Priestley, Eriksen and McCullough. The Code will be distributed internationally by eOne.
