Vancouver-based Paperny Entertainment has hired Sarah Jane Flynn to the position of VP of content, it was announced Monday.

Flynn, formerly the senior director of original factual content at Shaw Media, will oversee production in Toronto and be based in the city. Flynn will also work in tandem with Paperny Entertainment’s New York team to further the company’s operations in the U.S, as well as head up development activities in Canada.

“We’ve had the pleasure of working closely with Sarah Jane while she was on the network side.  Together, we have produced a lot of great shows.  She has wonderful story sense.  She has keen knowledge of the industry, and she has a wide network of contacts across Canada, the U.S., and the U.K.  She’s a great addition to our team as we strengthen our operation in Toronto and continue to adapt to the emerging models of production,” said David Paperny, president of Paperny Entertainment, in a statement.

In her role at Shaw Media, Flynn commissioned content for Global Television, History, National Geographic Canada and Slice, while also brokering global production deals and developing the company’s business strategy. Before joining the broadcaster, Flynn worked as a documentary producer and director.
