Matthew Santoro, Epic Meal Time and Carmilla are among the Canadian personalities and productions that received nominations for the fifth annual Streamy awards.
The awards recognize the best in YouTube and online video, as well as content creators. The awards ceremony will air on VH1 and its digital platforms on Sept. 17 from the Hollywood Palladium.
Santoro was nominated in the breakout creator category, while Carmilla received nods in the drama and best actress categories for Natasha Negovanlis’ performance in the Smokebomb branded entertainment series. IISuperwomanII, the YouTube channel from Lilly Singh, picked up a nod in the First Person category, while Harley Morenstein and Sterling Toth’s Epic Email Time is up for a prize in the Food category.
In the Collaboration category Jasmeet Singh (JusReign) was nominated for his video Bounce, made in partnership with YouTube creator Timothy DeLaGhetto. Canadian beauty vlogger Gigi Loren Lazzarato (Gigi Gorgeous) also secured a nomination in the Beauty category.
Overall, Snapchat’s first original scripted series SnapperHero received the most nominations with six, followed by Epic Rap Battles of History and Freddie Wong’s Video Game High School with four each. The winners are determined by the Streamys Blue Ribbon Panel, which is made up of creators, executives and other online video industry experts. The awards are presented by VH1, Dick Clark Productions and TubeFilter.
