Danae Elon’s doc P.S. Jerusalem (Canada/Israel) and the USA/Canada copro February are among the latest titles to be officially added to the Toronto International Film Festival’s lineup for its 2015 edition.
On Tuesday, the festival revealed titles to be added to its Vanguard, Midnight Madness, Cinematheque, Masters and Docs program. Osgood Perkins’ February, a USA/Canada coproduction, will have its world bow in the Vangaurd program. Other titles to have their world premiere in the Vanguard program include Kwon Oh-kwang’s Collective Invention (South Korea), Marcin Wronga’s Demon (Poland/Israel), Lucile Hadžihalilović’s Evolution (France), Harrison Atkin’s Lace Crater (USA), Álex de la Iglesia’s My Big Night (Spain) and A.D.Calvo’s The Missing Girl (USA). Previously announced Canadian titles to screen in the program include André Turpin’s Endorphine and Bruce McDonald’s Hellions.
The TIFF Docs lineup will feature the world premiere of the Canada/Israel copro P.S. Jerusalem. Other world bows in the program include U.K. production The Reflektor Tapes from director Kahill Joseph, which follows the making of the Arcade Fire album Reflektor. Geeta Gandbhir and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s A Journey of a Thousand Miles: Peacekeepers (USA/Pakistan), AP Anthony Wonke’s Being AP (U.K./Ireland), Bergur Bernburg and Fridrik Thor Fridriksson’s Horizon (Iceland/Denmark) and Barbara Kopple’s Miss Sharon Jones! (USA) are among the other documentaries to get world bows in the program. Previously announced Canadian titles in the program include Brian D. Johnson’s Al Purdy Was Here and Patrick Reed and Michelle Shephard’s Guantanamo’s Child: Omar Khadr.
A new digital restoration of Julian Roffman’s The Mask (Eyes of Hell), which was the first feature-length Canadian horror film and the first 3D film made in Canada, will have its world premiere in the Cinematheque program. The digital restoration of The Mask was commissioned by TIFF and used elements from the best remaining 35mm prints. Foreign productions to screen in the program include Barbara Kopple’s Harlan County (USA) and Frederick Wiseman’s Titicut Follies.
There were no Canadian or Canadian copro titles added to the Midnight Madness lineup on Tuesday. Can Evrenol’s Baskin (Turkey), Sean Byrne’s The Devil’s Candy (USA), Nick Simon’s The Girl in the Photographs (USA), Ilya Naishuller’s Hardcore (Russia/USA), Joe Begos’ The Mind’s Eye (USA) and Southbound (USA) will get their world bows in the Midnight Madness program.
