Irish writer Shane Connaughton has boarded a new project in Patrice Théroux’s post-eOne content pipeline.

The Family Shakespeare, currently in-development, is a six-part miniseries series focusing on the adult life of William Shakespeare and his struggle to balance his family life in Stratford and his professional life in London. It is the second project backed by Théroux following his departure from Entertainment One this past fall.

Before joining the creative team of The Family Shakespeare, Connaughton had penned scripts for The Playboys, Every Picture Tells A Story, The Run of the Country and the three-part Murder in Eden miniseries for BBC. He was nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay for his work on 1989’s My Left Foot, and also worked on the Academy Award-winning short The Dollar Bottom.

Théroux will executive produce The Family Shakespeare, along with Leif Bristow, Anges Bristow and John Rhys-Davies. There is no broadcaster attached to the project as of yet.

Via their shingle Leif Films, husband-and-wife team Leif and Anges Bristow hold producer credits on projects such as Saul: The Journey to Damascus, Kart Race and the TV series Wildlife Quest. The Family Shakespeare is the seventh project Théroux and the Bristows have collaborated on. Rhys-Davies is known primarily as an actor and has appeared in a number of productions, including Saul: The Journey to Damascus, Once Upon A Time and Beyond The Mask.

Théroux, formerly the head of eOne’s film group, announced last month he had partnered with Buck Productions to adapt the comic book series ReincarNATE into a one-hour crime drama. At the time of Théroux’s departure from eOne in September 2014, it was announced he would continue to work with eOne through a film and TV development deal.
