eOne tops up alt-programming division with new execs

The company is expanding its alternative programming division with three new exec hires, including executive producer Mark Herwick.

With opportunity in the U.S. unscripted space rife, Entertainment One is expanding its “alternative programming” division with the addition of three new execs.

Mark Herwick has been named head of current, U.S. alternative programming, Ben Megargel as senior director, development and Jesse Daniels as director of development. Elliot Schwartz has been promoted to manager of development.

A seasoned executive producer in factual, Herwick joins eOne with a varied portfolio of credits including Disney’s Code: 9, VH1’s The Linda Perry Project and Hell’s Kitchen for Fox. He most recently served as exec producer and showrunner on E!’s plastic-surgery series Botched. In his new role, he will work with Tara Long, eOne’s EVP of U.S. alternative programming, to shape the creative direction of all eOne’s on-air unscripted shows.

Megargel’s most recently worked at Karga Seven Pictures as the company’s director of development. He has previously worked on the Weather Channel’s Tornado Alley and Natural Born Monsters, as well as Discovery’s Cry Wolfe.

In his previous role Daniels served as manager of development at Maverick TV.

Megargel, Daniels and Schwartz have been collectively tasked “to strategically increase the breadth and depth of eOne Television’s existing slate of successful unscripted series with fresh, engaging projects,” a statement from eOne said.

In April, eOne bolstered its unscripted development slate with a first-look deal with Creature Films. More recently the company hired Pancho Mansfield as its president of scripted programming.
