Karen O’Hara joins Odyssey Media

The former Syfy exec joins the Vancouver-based prodco as it aims to strengthen its international operations and U.S. development strategy.

Former Syfy executive Karen O’Hara has joined Odyssey Media as the Vancouver-based prodco aims to strengthen its international operations and U.S. development strategy.

O’Hara takes on the position of executive in charge of U.S. East Coast production and development, and will be based in New York. There, she will be responsible for driving Odyssey’s expansion into the American film, television and online media market.

Prior to joining Odyssey, O’Hara spent seven years as VP original movies at Syfy, where she developed and supervised the production of over 150 movies in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Bulgaria and Romania, including Sharknado.

Before that, O’Hara worked at HBO in an number of positions, including as a story analyst, documentary researcher, an acquisitions consultant and as a creative producer and writer on the Cinemax After Dark series.
