Canadian TV producer Media Headquarters is pacting with Electus and Barracuda Television Productions to produce a U.S. adaptation of the CBC reality competition series Canada’s Smartest Person.
Electus International, Electus’s global distribution arm, in 2012 took the worldwide rights to the CBC show to spawn local versions worldwide.
Now Electus and Barry Poznick’s shingle Barracuda are working with Media Headquarters to produce an American version of of the Canadian series.
Poznick, who has collaborated with Electus on other U.S. format adaptations, will executive produce the stateside version.
Poznick’s TV credits include Are You Smarter Than Fifth Grader?, Buckwild, and Family Game Night.
The American adaptation of the Canadian format is currently being shopped to U.S. networks.
Electus has already licensed Canada’s Smatest Person to Turkey’s TRT and Sera Film for production, and has secured deals in France, Norway, Sweden and Portugal.
