Quebec director Maxime Giroux didn’t pick up his best Canadian feature film prize for Felix and Meira at the Toronto International Film Festival last September as he was in Paris.
But Giroux was on hand at the Whistler Film Festival Sunday as Felix and Meira swept the Borsos competition, winning for best Canadian feature, best director and best screenplay.
“What can I say, I’m very happy,” Giroux said after bounding on stage to receive his hardware.
And Felix and Meira‘s Hadas Yaron won for best performance in a Borsos film.
“Well, she’s super happy,” Giroux said minutes later when accepting the trophy on her behalf.
Other Whistler award winners: The Backward Class by director Madeleine Grant won for best world documentary, and the best mountain culture film went to Mike Douglas’ Snowman.
“Wow, this is cool!” Douglas exclaimed Sunday afternoon during the awards brunch at Whistler.
Snowman won the fest trophy ahead of its premiere on Sunday night in Whistler
The best Canadian short film award went to Running Season, directed by Grayson Moore. And the best international short film went to The Tide Keeper, by Alyx Duncan.
