The CBC on Thursday added the ITV crime series Chasing Shadows to its upcoming winter schedule.
The four-parter about a detective pursuing missing people murdered by serial killers will debut on March 23, 2015.
The addition comes as part of a stand-pat schedule at the pubcaster that includes previously announced new mid-season series like Camp X, Schitt’s Creek, the six-parter Book of Negroes and the Donald Sutherland-starring animated film Pirate’s Passage.
Elsewhere, the CBC continues to rely on foreign series acquisitions like recent credits The Honourable Woman, starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Secrets and Lies, a six-part miniseries from BBC Worldwide and Australian producer Hoodlum.
The foreign buys in part are due to continuing programming cuts as the pubcaster looks to balance its books, and a strategy to distinguish itself from private sector rivals that depend on U.S. network fare to draw audiences.
As previously announced, the CBC is bringing back mid-season new episodes of original series Mr. D, Strange Empire, Dragons’ Den, Heartland, 22 Minutes, Marketplace and the fifth estate.
