Former CBC radio personality Jian Ghomeshi has been charged with four counts of sexual assault, Toronto Police announced Wednesday.
Following an investigation launched on Oct. 31 by the Toronto Police Service Sex Crimes unit, Ghomeshi now faces five charges in total, including one count of overcome resistance – choking.
A release issued Wednesday indicated Ghomeshi had surrendered to police and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday afternoon.
The police called for anyone with additional information about Ghomeshi’s case, which includes allegations from nine women coming forward to the Canadian media, indicating the police investigation is ongoing.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Ghomeshi was dropping his $55 million lawsuit against the CBC and, as a formerly unionized employee, would instead file a internal grievance against the pubcaster.
