Dinosaur Valley Studios opens in Alberta

Dinosaur Valley Studios has opened its doors in the Drumheller area of Alberta to better serve small to medium-sized productions looking to take advantage of the region’s unique topography, says president Frank Hadfield.

“We think we can occupy quite a good niche here,” Hadfield told Playback Daily.

Dinosaur Valley Studios features two separate studio spaces available to rent – 3000 sq-ft and 1700 sq-ft respectively – a carpentry and fabrication facility, a storage area, a 500 ft conference room and an editing suite. The studio also offers services carpentry services and prop production, which Hadfield said is hard to come by in facilities outside the larger centres in Canada.

While both Edmonton and Calgary have large studio spaces (with Calgary slated to get its first permanent studio space by summer 2015), Hadfield said Dinosaur Valley’s niche will be in servicing small- to mid-sized-budget productions.

For example, productions can rent the smaller of the two studios if necessary and Hadfield says the studio plans to reach out to other studios in Calgary and Edmonton to take on overflow work for location-specific shoots.
