Entertainment One has acquired Paperny Entertainment to boost its presence in the North American unscripted and factual TV market.
Paperny is being picked up for $29.2 million, which includes eOne issuing 2.57 million of its own common shares and around $14.5 million in cash.
Vancouver-based Paperny is best known for factual series like Chow Masters for Travel Channel in the U.S., Chopped Canada for Food Network, and Yukon Gold for History Channel.
Paperny is led by co-founder and president David Paperny, co-founder and EVP Audrey Mehler and Cal Shumiatcher, EVP.
All three principals will remain with the company following completion of the acquisition deal.
Paperny Entertainment has offices in Toronto and New York City.
The Paperny deal comes as eOne looks to grow its U.S. alternative content division, and follows first look deals with unscripted producers like Impossible Pictures Factual and Stuart Coxe’s Antica Productions.
