eggplant group acquires Optix Toronto

The eggplant group has acquired the Optix Toronto post-production facility.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the takeover bolsters the newly-formed eggplant pictures division, based in Toronto, as a full-service creative studio comprising producers, directors, animators, editors and visual effect artists.

Optix Toronto partners George Levai and Attila Levai have left to pursue other ventures and will not be a part of eggplant pictures.

And Paul Moyer of Optix Toronto will join other partners Dave Conlon, Terry Tompkins, Rocco Gagliese, Steve D’Angelo and Adam Damelin at eggplant pictures.

And creative director, photographer and imagemaker Sam Javanrouh, will oversee eggplant pictures animation and the VFX team.

Elsewhere, Tania Smunchilla comes over from Creative Post to become VP production and general manager.

The Optix deal means eggplant pictures now offers interactive services, including transmedia apps, production services from creative concept to development, and post-production services.

Eggplant pictures is about to start post work on Danny Perez’s Antibirth, while doing graphics and animation work for season 14 of May Day for Cineflix.
