PAW Patrol most in-demand Canadian series globally in 2024

Other Canadian series with high global demand include Vikings, Letterkenny and Mayday, according to Parrot Analytics.

Toronto-based Spin Master Entertainment’s PAW Patrol was the most in-demand Canadian series globally for 2024, according to data from Parrot Analytics.

The data ranks Canadian series according to their global demand throughout the 2024 calendar year. Demand was largely driven by established franchises out of Canada, with a handful of new series also making the list.

TVOKids and Nickelodeon’s PAW Patrol, which was 47.4 times more in demand than the average TV series in 2024, was at the forefront of long-running series that formed the top of Canadian television global demand. Its spinoff series Rubble & Crew also made the top 20 with a demand average of 9.8.

Landing behind PAW Patrol with a demand average of 33.6 was Vikings (Take 5 Productions, World 2000 Entertainment; pictured top left). Although the Canada/Ireland coproduction had its final episode air on History in 2021, the historical drama had a sequel series, Vikings: Valhalla, commissioned by Netflix that had its third and final season premiere in 2024.

Crave’s Letterkenny (New Metric Media; pictured right) landed at No. 3 and is another series that has had its demand remain high despite signing off after 12 seasons in 2023. The Jared Keeso-created comedy series had a demand average of 16.4. Its hockey-focused successor Shoresy landed at No. 10 with a demand average of 11.1. Both series are available in the U.S. on Hulu.

At No. 4 is Toronto-based Cineflix’s Mayday (pictured bottom left), with a demand average of 15.8. The long-running series now on its 25th season, known as Mayday: Air Disaster or Air Crash Investigation outside of Canada, has been airing since 2003 and recounts, documents and examines airplane disasters.

No. 5 represents the first new Canadian series with the CBC’s and the CW’s Wild Cards (Blink49 Studios, Front Street Pictures, Piller/Segan). The procedural premiered at the beginning of 2024 and had a demand average of 13.9. A second season is set to premiere on CBC on Friday (Jan. 10).

Blink49 and Front Street Pictures had a second new series land at No. 15 with CTV’s and the CW’s Sight Unseen. The crime drama, which had a demand average of 9.4, premiered in early 2024.

Other recent series that broke the top 20 include Citytv’s Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent (Lark Productions, Cameron Pictures), settling at No. 6 (12.7); Syfy’s SurrealEstate (Blue Ice Pictures), which landed at No. 8 (11.3); and CBC’s Son of a Critch (Project 10 Productions, Hawco Productions) at No. 12 (10.4).

Rounding out the recent series is Lark Productions’ Allegiance at No. 16 (9.2), Late Bloomer (Pier 21 Films) at No. 19 (7.6) and Orphan Black: Echoes (Boat Rocker Media) at No. 20 (7.4).

The data also ranks countries, outside of Canada, by their highest share of demand for Canadian television. The U.S. leads in that field, representing 7.1% of overall global demand for Canadian TV. See the chart below for the top ten list of countries.

Parrot Analytics also tracked individual country demand for Canadian series as a share of that country’s total demand. In 2024, Canada’s share of Canadian demand was 9.2%, meaning that 90.8% of demand was focused on non-Canadian television. Following Canada was South Africa and Denmark, with the rest of the top 10 listed below.
