Toronto-based producer White Pine Pictures has hired producer Andrew Munger as its head of factual development.

Munger comes to the newly created role at White Pine from a four-and-a-half year stint as the manager of television production for World Vision Canada, where he lead media production for the non-profit. Prior to that he ran his own documentary shingle, Ultramagnetic Productions, producing a number of documentaries for CBC, including Wal-Mart Nation, and factual projects for Discovery, History and Life/Slice.

On the development side, Munger, who will focus on factual entertainment, joins scripted head Lesley Grant and White Pine founder Peter Raymont, who will continue to focus on the prodco’s feature documentary slate.

Also recently added to White Pine’s roster Stephen Paniccia, formerly of the Nightingale Company, as financial controller and Ronn Scott, formerly of 9 Story, as business affairs coordinator.

White Pine this winter saw its Cracked drama on CBC cancelled following budget cuts at the pubcaster, but went on to earn eight Canadian Screen Award nominations:  four for Cracked and four for West Wind: The Vision of Tom Thomson. 

This April, the company’s award-winning 2004 doc Shake Hands With The Devil: The Journey of Roméo Dallaire, was re-broadcast on CBC to mark the 20th anniversary of the start of the Rwandan genocide on which the film was based.
