Telefilm invests $3.5M in 12 features

Telefilm Canada has invested another $3.5 million in the production of 12 English language theatrical features, including the latest work from Rafaël Ouellet, Terrance Odette and Jason Bourque.

Films with budgets of less than 2.5 million dollars to receive coin through the Canada Feature Film Fund includes Ouellet’s Gurov and Anna, a drama from indie producer Zone3 that received $475,000, Odette’s Fall, another drama from Industry Pictures and Pearl Street Films that received $400,000, and the thriller Black Fly Summer by Jason Bourque and Gold Star Productions that received $300,000.

Telefilm also backed Jesse Harley’s Lure, a suspense film from Ballistic Film Productions with a $60,000 investment, Ricky Blitt’s Hit By Lightning, a comedy from Chantal Chamandy Entertainment that received $200,000, and Turbo Kid, a sci-fi fantasy picture directed by Anouk Whissell, Yoann-Karl Whissell, François Simard and from indie producer Les Productions Jeux d’Ombres with $500,000.

Also receiving investment from Telefilm is Jeffrey St. Jules’ Bang Bang Baby with a $350,000 investment, Chris Trebilock’s The Dark Stranger with $425,000 in coin, Siobhan Devine’s The Birdwatcher with another $100,000 production investment, Kyle Rideout’s Eadweard receiving $150,000, Cameron Labine’s Mountain Men receiving $400,000, and Mark Sawers’ No Men Beyond This Point getting a $132,000 injection.
