Telefilm invests $4.7M in five feature films

Telefilm Canada has announced a $4.7 million investment in five feature films, including three international coproductions, through the Canada Feature Film fund for the third quarter of 2013-2014.

The Elephant Song, from director Charles Binamé and produced by Melenny Productions, received $2.3 million. The film currently has a May 2014 release date and will be distributed by Les Films Sevillé.

Meanwhile, the animated film Ballerina, a majority Canadian coproduction with France directed by Éric Warin and Eric Summer, received $1.25 million from the financier. Productions Caramel Film is producer with Les Films Sevillé distributing.

Director Bruce McDonald’s horror-thriller Hellions, currently in production, received $696,091 from Telefilm; Whizbang Films and Storyteller Pictures are producing the film.

Un Monde truqué (A Rigged World), a 2D/3D animated thriller, received $300,000 in funding. The feature is a minority Canadian coproduction with France, with Frank Ekinci and Christian Desmares directing and Kaibou Production producing. The film is being distributed by Métropole Films Distribution and currently has a March 2015 release date.

Finally, the minority Canadian-Belgian coproduction Je suis a toi (I am yours) received $150,000 from the financier. The drama was written and directed by David Lambert and produced by Boréal Films.

Je suis a toi (I am yours) will be distributed by Filmoption International, and has a fall 2014 release date.
