Telefilm Canada invests $3.7M in five feature films

Telefilm Canada this week announced a $3.7 million investment in five feature films – two in English and three in French – through the Canada Feature Film Fund for the second quarter of 2013-2014.

The selected films are from Quebec, and the Atlantic and Western regions of Canada.

The period drama Corbo, directed by Mathieu Denis and produced by Max Media Films Inc, has received a $1.3 million investment from the financier, while Mommy, the latest project from writer-director Xavier Dolan about a widowed single mother raising her violent son, received $1.2 million.

Telefilm Canada also invested $400,000 in Swearnet, a comedy featuring actors from Trailer Park Boys. The project is directed by Warren Sonoda, and produced by Swearnet Inc. and The Pits Inc. Swearnet is set for an August 2014 release date.

Meanwhile, the family comedy-drama La Gang des hors-la-loi received $300,000 from Telefilm Canada. La Gang des hors-la-loi is directed by Jean Beaudry and produced by Les Productions La Fete (Gang) Inc.

Finally, Reasonable Doubt, a thriller that is a majority Canadian coproduction with Germany, received a $275,000 investment from Telefilm Canada. The project is directed by Peter Howitt and produced by Resonable Doubt Productions BC Inc.
