The Quebec government is making it easier for visual effects and video game producers to recruit foreign artists for seasonal work.
The Quebec Film & Television Council (QFTC) on Tuesday said the ministry of immigration and cultural communities updated its list of occupations allowed streamlined processing to recruit temporary foreign workers.
The new list includes a new category for producers and project managers overseeing visual effects and video game development and production.
The new rules follow government consultation with Quebec media companies, including Mokko Studio, Framestore and MPC VFX.
“Since its creation, the audiovisual cluster, together with its partners, has worked to mobilize industry players around common goals to address the issues and the challenges that currently drive the sector,” Quebec film commissioner Hans Fraikin said in a statement.
“This recent amendment reflects the strategic role held by the the cluster ActionMTL and the government’s willingness to support the growth of companies in the audiovisual sector,” Fraikin, who is also CEO of the QFTC, added.
