Jeremy LaLonde’s Sex After Kids could get a box office bump after Amanda Brugel earned the best female performance trophy at the ACTRA Awards in Toronto on Saturday.
Brugel, who played Vanessa in the ensemble comedy now in commercial release, shared the spotlight at The Carlu with Rick Roberts, who won best male performance for his star turn as Jack Layton in the CBC biopic Jack.
Sex After Kids, which also stars Gordon Pinsent and Zoie Palmer in a film about five couples navigating sexual intimacy after parenthood, opened with a box office gross of $4,694 in its first week of release, putting it in fourth position for the week, according to Rentrak box office data.
Other ACTRA Award winners included Terry McGurrin winning for best voice performance for his work as Scaredy Squirrel in Scaredy Squirrel.
And R. H. Thomson picked up the 2014 Award of Excellence, while the best stunt award went to Marco Bianco.
