Ric Esther Bienstock sells world rights to HBO doc

U.S. distributor Journeyman Pictures has picked up the world rights, excluding North America, to Ric Esther Bienstock’s latest documentary Tales from the Organ Trade.

The rights deal for the investigative documentary on organ trafficking for HBO from indie producer Associated Producers comes during a busy time for the Canadian filmmaker.

This week, Bienstock is off to Copenhagen to address the Danish parliament at the invitation of the Danish Council of Ethics as part of a historical report on the ethical issues surrounding the sale of body parts.

Bienstock has also just sold her film to ZDF Arte for Germany and France, Yes in Israel and Danish broadcaster DR.

Tales From the Organ Trade, narrated by David Cronenberg,  probes the shadowy world of black market organ trafficking.

Bienstock wrote and directed the film after making an earlier documentary about human trafficking.

Global Television is set to air Tales From the Organ Trade in 2014.
