Showcase to debut Helix in January

Helix, the new series from Battlestar Galactica executive producer Ronald D. Moore, will debut on Showcase on Jan. 10, 2013.

The Billy Campbell-starrer, which is also to air on Syfy stateside, is being shot in Montreal and portrays a team of scientists from the Centers for Disease Control probing a possible disease outbreak at a research facility in the Arctic.

The 13-part series also stars Hiroyuki Sanada (Revenge), Kyra Zagorsky and Mark Ghanimé.

Moore’s Battlestar Galactica was shot in Vancouver.

Helix is produced by Tall Ship Productions, Kaji Productions, Montreal’s Muse Entertainment and Lynda Obst Productions, in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Jeffrey Reiner (Friday Night Lights) is directing the premiere episode of Helix, which was written by creator and co-executive producer, Cameron Porsandeh.

Besides Helix, Syfy is also airing Defiance, Warehouse 13 and Lost Girl, all of which are shot in Toronto, Bitten, Being Human, which is shot in Montreal, the Vancouver-shot Continuum, and Haven, which is shot in Nova Scotia.
