The National Screen Institute announced six participants for the second year of its Lifestyle & Reality Series Producer course.
The week-long bootcamp begins Nov. 1, followed by an eight-week apprenticeship on an existing lifestyle series from one of the program’s partners, which are Shaw Media, Bell Media and Corus Entertainment.
The course, which is fully funded by the production community, was created to address the need for more skilled Canadian factual and lifestyle series producers. Production companies nominate a candidate from within their company who is ready to make the leap into unscripted series production.
This year’s nominated students and production companies are: Meredith Veath (Proper Television), Veronica Saluzzi (Temple Street Productions), JD Scott (Cineflix Productions), Andrew Murray (Buck Productions), Sylvie Brownlow (Peace Point Entertainment) and Ryan Valenti (Peacock Alley Entertainment).
The course cost is $25,000 per candidate, paid by the production company that nominates a qualified candidate from within their company, with $13,000 payable to the NSI to offset training costs and $12,000 to cover the participant’s apprenticeship stipend.’
Last year’s participants were mentored on shows including Property Brothers, Yukon Gold, Mother of the Bride, Love it or List It, Chef Michael’s Kitchen and Decked Out.
Brandice Vivier, who also runs the NSI’s Totally Television and Features First programs, is the program manager. Production execs Sam Linton (Ice Pilots, Mother of the Bride) and Allan Novak (Kids in the Hall, Recipe to Riches) are program advisors.
