Former Barenaked Ladies frontman Steven Page has a new gig as The Illegal Eater.

In the new series, slated to premiere on Blue Ant Media’s Travel + Escape on Oct. 22, Page will explore the hidden food scenes in various North American cities.

That includes seeking out underground restaurants that operate through legal loopholes and pop-up supper clubs, in U.S. cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas, New Orleans and New York, and Canadian cities Halifax, Ottawa and Toronto.

Page said in a statement that through his years of touring during his music career, he has found that off-the-beaten-path culinary locales showcase “the real heart and soul” of cities.

Online, the Travel + Escape site will host additional video content including cooking tips and behind-the scenes footage from shooting the series.

The Illegal Eater produced by Winnipeg-based Farpoint Films. The series is created by Chris Charney and Scott Leary, directed by John Barnard, and produced by Kyle Bornais and Tony Wosk.
