Paris-based arthouse film sales agency Urban Sales has acquired worldwide rights to CG-animated Canadian feature Space Cadet ahead of its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale).
The 80-minute film is directed by Eric San (aka Kid Koala) and based on his 2011 graphic novel of the same name about a young astronaut and her guardian robot. The graphic novel was adapted for the screen by Mylène Chollet and San is providing original music for the film.
Space Cadet is produced by Ginette Petit of Montreal’s Outsiders Films. Michel Pradier and Nathalie Bissonnette are executive producers. The film is distributed in Canada by Les Films Opale and will have a fall theatrical release following its world premiere at Berlinale in February.
Farpoint Distribution
Winnipeg’s Farpoint Films has inked several deals for unscripted shows out of Canada via its distribution arm.
Farpoint-produced series West Vikings (8 x 60 minutes) has been sold to global satellite company Viasat Worldwide and Super Channel in Canada. Fellow Farpoint series Ghosts off Grid (14 x 60 minutes) has been picked up by Discovery Germany (season one) and Discovery UK (season two).
Farpoint Distribution has also inked deals for other Canadian titles. Hearst Network Germany has acquired season one and two of Imperfect Murder (26 x 60 minutes), produced by Winnipeg-based Black Watch Entertainment. Meanwhile, Paramount+ has acquired Bright North Studios (formerly Efran Films) series Holly Jolly Homicide (12 x 60 minutes) and season two of PD True (20 x 60 minutes) for Canada. The deals were negotiated with Elwood Entertainment.
Gusto TV
Blue Ant-owned connected TV marketplace Media Pulse has been named sales partner in Canada for Gusto TV.
With this new partnership, Media Pulse will offer its clients ad opportunities across the full range of Gusto TV’s CTV inventory. Gusto is an international food channel with over 60 original titles, including series such as Cook Like A Chef, Bonacini’s Italy and Flour Power. Its programming is broadcast in English and Spanish in more than 160 countries and on 40 different platforms.
Deborah Gurofsky, recently promoted to SVP and general manager at Media Pulse, said the partnership with Gusto TV will enable the company to connect brands with a diverse, hyper-interested, streaming and food-loving audience.
Media Pulse enters into the agreement with Gusto after becoming Discovery+’s Canadian sales partner. Under that partnership, the company offers advertisers CTV slots on a wide range of entertainment and lifestyle programs from networks such as Discovery Channel, HGTV, Food Network, Travel Channel, Animal Planet and Lifetime. Before that, Media Pulse signed a deal with global in-game advertising platform Anzu to exclusively represent its entire in-game inventory for Canada, which encompasses popular game titles across multiple platforms.
