Germany’s Beta Film has racked up more European sales for Cracked from White Pine Pictures.
The German distributor of the series internationally sold the Canadian drama, now in its second season on the CBC, to NBCUniversal for France and to Germany’s ProSiebenSat.1 group.
Cracked was previously sold in France to Canal Plus.
ProSiebenSat.1 will debut Cracked on its Sat.1 Emotions digital channel, before adding the series to Kabel 1 in 2014.
The European deals follow a second year of Cracked cast promoting the cop drama on the Croisette.
“It helps them (Beta Film) sell the show. People like to meet the actors on the show and have contact with them,” David Sutcliffe, who plays Detective Aidan Black on Cracked, said.
Sutcliffe was at MIPCOM last year with Stefanie von Pfetten, who played psychiatrist Dr. Daniella Ridley during the first season of Canadian drama.
She was replaced in the second season by Brooke Nevin, who joined the Psych Crimes Unit as psychiatrist Dr. Clara Malone, and is also on the Croisette this week to drum up international sales.
As part of that sales effort, Sutcliffe and Nevin have done a series of media interviews and been wined and dined with broadcasters.
“It helps personalize the sale. They put a face to a show. There’s a personal connection,” Nevin said of the face time with buyers this week.
