Breakthrough Entertainment has acquired the distribution rights to Igal Hecht’s documentary A Universal Language, where Yuk Yuk’s Mark Breslin (pictured) brings six Canadian stand-up comics to Jerusalem to make Israelis and Palestinians chuckle amid their civil conflict.
The Chutzpa Productions’ 70-minute film features comedians like Rebecca Kohler, Aaron Berg and Jean Paul poking fun at Orthodox Jews and riling up a Palestinian audience in occupied East Jerusalem.
“In a region rife with daily unrest, A Universal Language is a much-needed breath of fresh air,” said Nat Abraham, president of distribution for Breakthrough Entertainment, said in a statement.
A Universal Language had its world premiere at the 2013 Toronto Jewish Film Festival.
Breakthrough will introduce the documentary to international buyers at MIPCOM.
