Canadian radio and TV screenwriters and the CBC have reached a tentative deal on new labour contracts tailored to the evolving digital arena.
The Writers Guild of Canada and the public broadcaster on Thursday said they agreed on terms for separate new collective agreements for English-language screenwriting for the CBC’s radio and TV networks.
The new agreements, to take effect Sept. 1 and run through Aug. 31, 2016, include an annual rate increase.
Neil McEneaney, interim executive VP of English services at CBC/Radio-Canada, in a statement said the new deals represented a “win-win” for both sides in the recent negotiations.
“Our primary focus in this negotiation was to recognize that the media landscape has changed dramatically, and provide terms for digital writing and re-use of programs on CBC’s digital platforms,” Laurie Channer, WGC director of industrial relations, added in her statement.
