Kevin Costner’s Treehouse Films production shingle has secured a first-look TV deal with Sea To Sky Entertainment, the TV production and distribution joint venture between Lionsgate and Thunderbird Films.
Costner and Treehouse creative executive Jasa McCall will develop and produce scripted programming, with the Hollywood actor possibly directing and acting in some projects.
The tie-up with the Canadian producer follows the success of Costner’s Hatfields & McCoys, in which the actor has a starring role.
“We’re excited about the ideas he wants to pursue and delighted to be in business together,” Kevin Beggs, president of the Lionsgate Television Group, said Tuesday in a statement.
Sea to Sky is headed up on the development side by Brent Burlock as it aims to become a one-stop studio alternative for Canadian networks.
The launch of Toronto-based Sea to Sky follows Lionsgate founder Frank Giustra taking a major stake in Tim Gamble’s Thunderbird Film as it moves from mainly rights management to producing TV shows for the Canadian and international markets.
Costner is repped by WME and managed by J.J. Harris at One Management.
