The Canadian film, television and video production industry generated $3.5 billion in operating revenue in 2011, according a recent report released by Statistics Canada.
The amount reported indicates a 13.2 per cent increase when compared to the $3.1 billion generated in operating revenues 2010
Television productions brought in the most money at 59.8 per cent or roughly $2 billion. Meanwhile, commercials accounted for 13.6 per cent of production revenue, with feature film productions bringing in 11.4 per cent.
Ontario was responsible for 52.2 per cent of the overall $3.5 billion, accounting for more than $1.5 billion in the province alone. Quebec was next with 27.1 per cent or $953 million, while B.C. helped with 13.8 per cent of that nation-wide total, contributing $485 million.
Operating expenditures also increased in 2011 by 8.9 per cent, but to a lesser extent than the revenue, which led to a profit increase of 4.8 per cent.
