Nomadic Pictures co-founders to produce Copper

Cineflix Studios has made it official: Nomadic Pictures co-founders Mike Frislev and Chad Oakes have been hired to oversee production on the BBC America and Showcase drama Copper.

Playback first reported in October 2012 that Brad van Arragon, a producer on the first season of Copper, was to be replaced on the scripted drama as it got renewed for a second season.

Now comes word from Cineflix that Oakes and Frislev are signed for the second season, as pre-production gets underway ahead of shooting to start next month in Toronto.

“Chad and Mike have built a superb reputation in this industry, especially in the world of scripted drama, with the success of the critically acclaimed Hell on Wheels,” said Vlad Wolynetz, president of production, Cineflix Studios, in a statement Friday.

AMC ordered a third season of Hell on Wheels, which comes from Endemol, Entertainment One and Nomadic Pictures.

BBC America and Showcase ordered 13 episodes of Copper to air this year.

Copper, executive produced by Barry Levinson and Tom Fontana, is set in 1860s New York City and focuses on an Irish immigrant cop played by Tom Weston-Jones.
