Mychael Danna nets Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice nominations

Multi-award winning Canadian composer Mychael Danna has secured a twosome of nominations this week for his scoring of Ang Lee’s Life of Pi.

Wednesday he received a nomination for the Critics’ Choice Awards, while Thursday he secured a Golden Globe nomination for the score he created for the film adaptation of Canadian author Yann Martel’s novel.

Danna recently took home a SOCAN award, for his composing of the score for Moneyball. He’s also the chairman of the composer stream of the Canadian Film Centre’s Slaight Family Music Lab, first unveiled in June. He’s won multiple Genie awards and at least one Gemini.

The race for the Golden Globe’s score prize includes Danna and Alexandre Desplat for Argo, Dario Marianelli for Anna Karenina, Tom Tyker, Johnny Klimek and Rein Holdheil for Cloud Atlas and John Williams for Lincoln.

In the race for the Critics’ Choice score award Danna is again up against Desplat (who is nominated both for Argo and Moonrise Kingdom) and Williams plus Jonny Greenwood for The Master.

He is represented by First Artists Management.
