CFC unveils Slaight Music Residency lineup

The CFC revealed Tuesday the participants in its inaugural Slaight Music Residency.

This year’s residents include Toronto-based composer Jeffery Morrow, whose music has appeared on Teletoon’s Crash Canyon and CBC’s The Fifth Estate, and composer and producer Todor Kobakov, who has scored features such as The Samaritan and Cold Blooded.

Rounding out the list are songwriter and performer Allie Hughes, who has appeared in Being Erica and King, and had songs in Rookie Blue, Saving Hope and the upcoming Love Me, and songwriter, composer and producer Chris Bartos, who has had work featured on OLN’s Departures.

Part of the Slaight Family Music Lab announced in June, the residency aims to integrate music creators into the onscreen process and build Canada’s onscreen musical talent.

It will also bring the CFC’s music, film, TV and digital media residents together with music and screen-based entertainment heavyweights and business and technical professionals.

Over the course of its nine-month curriculum, it will help two composers and two songwriters develop business opportunities, expand their professional networks, and develop their craft.

Mychael Danna is on-board as composer chair, with Blue Rodeo’s Jim Cuddy acting as songwriter chair.

The program launched Monday with a master class on music film with CFC founder and Chair Emeritus Norman Jewison and Bruce McDonald.

Master classes and workshops will continue over the next two to three weeks.
