Renewals and new series: homebuilders, models, addictions and apps

Intervention Canada, based on the popular, award-winning A&E format will return to Slice for a second season this fall.

The Shaw Media, Open Door Co. and Insight Productions project is a one-hour documentary series that reveals the difficult realities of Canadians whose addictions to drugs, alcohol or other compulsive behaviours are threatening their lives and destroying their families.

Interventionists Andrew Galloway and Maureen Brine are back for the 14-episode second season, as is showrunner Karen Wookey.

Joining Intervention Canada is Business News Network’s App Central, which will return for a 40-episode third season Wednesday, May 16 at 8:30 p.m.

The show, which airs on five Bell Media platforms, including BNN and CTV, explores the growing business world of apps, with hosts Amber MacArthur and Michael Hainsworth taking a look at the best apps from Canada and around the world.

App Central has also been picked up internationally, with Australia’s Network Seven and Korea’s HD Broadcasting Corporation acquiring rights to the series.

Master contractor Jim Caruk will make his return to HGTV with the new series Builder Boss.

The series takes an inside look at real-life Caruk Group builds, documenting the stress and success from the beginning stages to the finishing touches.

Builder Boss debuts with back-to-back episodes Thursday, June 21 at 10 p.m.

Elsewhere, FashionTelevisionChannel will debut two new series, A Model Life (pictured) and Fashion Week Internationale this month.

A Model Life, which premieres May 24 at 8 p.m., follows eight young models picked as the “collective muse” for fashion photographer Perou.

Fashion Week Internationale, from Canada’s Vice Magazine, launches May 26 at 8 p.m., and follows fashion reporter Charlet Duboc behind the scenes at various fashion shows outside of the usual high-profile glam events in New York, Paris and London.
