Don McKellar is to direct the English language remake of 2003 Quebec film The Grand Seduction for Max Films.

Ken Scott was originally on board to direct the English language version.

“In situations of emergency, we have to find exceptional answers, and for me Don McKellar is an exceptional filmmaker,” Max Films head Roger Frappier, who is producing the English language version, said Wednesday in a statement after finding his replacement.

The remake will shoot in Newfoundland this summer, with Barbara Doran of Morag Loves Company and Pierre-Ange Le Pogam from France-based Stone Angels Production also producing.

Alliance Vivafilm will release the remake in Canada, while foreign sales are handled by Germany’s Atlas International.
